April Is National Pet First Aid Awareness Month.
Animals, while mammals like us, have very different anatomy - they can take more abuse, and recover more easily, but some things need special care... a basic example we like to use is hydrogen peroxide (H2O2): For Humans hydrogen peroxide is often used in first aid for cleaning or disinfecting, but you'll usually find hydrogen peroxide in the best pet first aid kits because it is used to induce vomiting in pets (such as when they have ingested something poisonous you want to expel.)
While often veterinary clinics will offer free or paid pet first aid courses, you want to be well stocked in the items you need to care for your pet in an emergency - and keep in mind that 24 hours veterinary hospitals are not on every street corner and come with a high price tag... if you know what to do, you can save your furry family member and some serious cash.
Whether you decide to look for a pet first aid course or not, at least take the time to learn about your pet's health and the first aid steps you may need if you dog, cat or horse gets injured. Ii is a basic responsibility of pet ownership and care. Almost any first aid kit will come with a good pet first aid guide, or you can purchase one on its own. The key is to read it. Not when you need it (meaning not during a first aid emergency) but now. Learn about pet first aid before a crisis occurs.
