On this shortest day of the year, as we look forward once again to the warmth, light, and optimism of longer days, may we find the resolve to temper those days, and the coming seasons of our new life cycle, with compassion and progress toward peace among all the diverse people of the world...

And may our species also deepen its understanding and appreciation of this beautiful planet and the interdependence we share with so many other wondrous forms of life.
